Cities and municipalities have numerous options for ensuring greater safety on the roads in line with Vision Zero. Sometimes this can be done without great logistical or financial effort, for example by changing a traffic light to give priority to cyclists or regularly cutting back hedges to improve visibility at a crosswalk.
However, major measures to improve road safety, sustainable urban mobility, school route planning or to align with a modernized transport system, for example, can of course quickly cost money. Money that cities and local authorities often do not have in their budgets. Fortunately, however, there are regular funding activities from the federal and state governments.
Funding opportunities are available, for example, in areas where the transport sector contributes to the implementation of the European Green Deal. Funding is also available for municipalities, for example for projects that make sustainable mobility solutions safe, attractive and available for all road users and contribute to the environmentally and climate-friendly reorganization of transport. Funding is provided for innovative sustainable mobility and logistics. Corresponding funding opportunities are often aimed at the implementation of packages of measures from municipal and regional mobility plans.
Recipients of such funding are, for example, municipalities and municipal associations, but also municipal companies and institutions under public or private law.
Below we present some current funding opportunities for your municipality or company. The federal or state governments grant appropriate subsidies for your projects. The eligible packages of measures can be found in the respective calls for proposals.
